Penrose Crystal
In 1783 George & William Penrose founded the original Penrose Crystal factory in Waterford City. The factory soon became renowned for it's fabulous crystal and it's creations were shipped worldwide. In the mid 1850's the factory was forced to close, due to crippling taxes imposed by the then government.
Almost a century later, John Coughlan, A.B.C., S.C.A., the only Irish Artist to practice the art of Pointillism/Stipple Engraving, reformed the Penrose Crystal business in 1974. Through John's dedication the business has developed into a leading brand, with a a wide range of unique and distinctive products.
Penrose Crystal currently manufactures a range of gift sets that celebrate traditional Irish symbols, such as the claddagh and the harp. Their glass range includes Irish coffee glasses, wine glasses, champagne flutes, brandy snifters, and traditional whiskey glasses. Each set comes in a beautiful presentation box.
Penrose Crystal also produces a second glassware line called Hibernian Crystal. Hibernian Crystal line consists of a range of shot glasses that are etched with images inspired by Ireland. Each item comes individually boxed.
The Mouse on the Barroom Floor
Some Guinness was spilled on the barroom floor
when the pub was shut for the night.
Out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse
and stood in the pale moonlight.
He lapped up the frothy brew from the floor,
then back on his haunches he sat.
And all night long you could hear him roar,
'Bring on the gosh darn cat!'
